configuring the X server question
Im planning on installing FreeBSD 5.2.1 with a KDE desktop.
And I've read that the X server needs to be configured in order to use KDE/GNOME,etc.... Can I succesfully configure and run X server without being connected to the internet? I asking this because of the term X "server", and I tried to install FreeBSD once before with KDE and when I tried to do startx or startkde, it said something like "KDEpersonalizer not connected to server?" True newb on board |

Understanding X from the FreeBSD Handbook
In this case, the server is your machine, and the clients are the applications that you are running.* You'll want to read the FreeBSD handbook.. it will certainly make things a whole lot easier on you. I suggest printing out that whole chapter.. Or use one of the alt-Function keys to open up another terminal, and open the handbook there with Lynx. *If you're doing a single-computer desktop installation |

rerun sysinstall and configure xserver, you will need to know about your graphics card, and scan rates of your monitor. if you have problems configuring with the GUI, run xf86config as root.
