DING! in the prompt (C-Shell)
Hi folks,
I just noticed something that appeared a little strange. I am running FreeBSD, and I modified the PS about a year ago, when I installed it originally, to show user, host, time and path. I use the following command in the .cshrc (c-shell) set prompt = "%B[`whoami`@%m %P]%b\n%~ %# " This always worked fine, with: Code:
[ghengis@Napoleon 19:54:14] ~ # However, this morning, after running a portupgrade, the command prompt reappeard with: Code:
[ghengis@Napoleon DING!] ~ # That "DING!" is what I find odd. It should be the precise time of day in 24h format, according the the description of the %P parameter. Anybody know how the DING! gets there, or where I can read about it? It is not too terribly important, cause I assume it is a feature of the c-shell trying to tel me something. If anyone knows what, holler.. but don't anybody going to great effort to find an answer. I am just curious. Does bash do it too? -Steven |

ok, ok. I found it myself. That is the shell telling me that the hour has struck. I'd have never guessed. I found it in (hang on to your hats!) the manpage. Anyways, if it is annoying it can be shut off with "noding". All this time, and I had never even noticed it.. funny.
