Does the FreeBSD devil have a name?

I do not currently use FreeBSD, I am just wondering.

From the FreeBSD FAQ:
Quote:
16.9. What is the cute little red guy's name?

He does not have one, and is just called ``the BSD daemon''. If you insist upon using a name, call him ``beastie''. Note that ``beastie'' is pronounced ``BSD''.

You can learn more about the BSD daemon on his home page

Hi christo! I thought I'd read "Chuck" somewhere too. Where was this?

Funny - I did google for it to be honest and came up with this page - check out the bottom section, 'Daemons and Angels'

I found the solution on his homepage (see link above) - seems like "Chuck" was an invention of Walnut Creeks's marketing guys, but is not officially being accepted.

I like "beastie" (BSD) much better anyway. That's something new (at least to me), unlike "ThisIsJustAnotherSelfReferingAcronym".

I remember something at one point referring to Kirk McCusick coming up with the name for the daemon, which is 'Chuck' or 'Chuckie'.

Kirk is the one responsible for most of the filesystem happiness, including softupdates for all of the modern BSD's.

See here for more detailed info:
