I found the solution on his homepage (see link above) - seems like "Chuck" was an invention of Walnut Creeks's marketing guys, but is not officially being accepted.
I like "beastie" (BSD) much better anyway. That's something new (at least to me), unlike "ThisIsJustAnotherSelfReferingAcronym". ![]() ...M |

I remember something at one point referring to Kirk McCusick coming up with the name for the daemon, which is 'Chuck' or 'Chuckie'.
Kirk is the one responsible for most of the filesystem happiness, including softupdates for all of the modern BSD's. See here for more detailed info: http://www.freebsd.org/copyright/daemon.html -Gary
