Filesystem to Tape Utillities
I was wondering what people are using for tape backup utillities. I would like to backup web files from a FreeBSD server to it's internal tape drive.
What are the pros and cons of Amanda vs tar vs dump vs etc... Is there another utillity that's 'better'? To me, ease-of-use is more important than a feature-rich product. Incremental backups is about the only feature that's important to me (which basically counts out 'tar'). Thanks, Dave Tufts http://dave.imarc.net |

Start here--->
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.IS...kup-basics.html In summary, FreeBSD recommends DUMP as the best backup utility. ------------------- There is also a really good utility that comes with the FreeBSD ports, called Flexbackup, it can make use of tar, cpio, afio, or dump. It took a little tweaking but I've got it running, I'm backing up my local files to disk on a remote/offsite backup server over a secure (SSH) line. http://www.flexbackup.org/ |

I am currently working on setting up this remote backup utility called amanda. I have a couple of remote machines to keep backed up, but it will work just as well as a local utility.
Right now I have a Iomega zip drive mounted on my home machine, but am looking to invest in a jaz drive. You can see an article on amanda at http://www.onlamp.com and the website is http://www.amanda.org Brett |
