does flash run in mac x native mode or does it run in os 9 emulation mode to work? if it runs in native mode, can it be installed on a freebsd box? or even in linux box for that matter?

I know little about macintoshs, but I can tell you this:
if it would work on freebsd then only on the same architecture like the mac, afaik PPC. And since it uses graphical output, it probably uses the aqua libraries (is that the right name?). They are not open source nor available for anything else but macOS X. I doubt you can run any gui mac programs on another os without an emulator.
