FreeBSD 5.4 & Win Xp Pro dual boot problem
Hi,
I have installed FreeBSD 5.4 on second IDE hard drive. I installed the Boot Manager. After installation was completed I cannot boot to my windows partition because the boot loader says: F1 ?? F5 Drive 1 so I press F5 That follows with: F1 FreeBSD F5 Drive 0 When I press F5 - ( assuming that would go into Windows ) it just hangs. But when I press F1 - it safely goes into FreeBSD> How can I get my Windows partition back? |

The only thing I can think of is perhaps for you to use the Windows install disk and select the Repair option (instead of install). This will put back the boot sector to Windows. Then, install FreeBSD and use a different boot-manager such as GRUB instead of BootMgr.

Yes, but how can I install Grub if I cannot boot into my second FreeBSD operating system.
The system will boot into windows automatically if I do what you suggest. |

Yes, this means you'll have to reinstall freebsd again. I was assuming that you'd just installed freebsd and didn't mind reinstalling it again

WRONG. That's how it is on my system. Use F1 for windows. I bet you that's an intentional easter egg from the developers. It's like they don't know what windows is. Don't press F5 F5. Press F5 F1 for FreeBSD and just F1 for Windows. Don't listen to these negative nancies.

Yeah, thanks. I got that part. But I was wondering about the way people say "thank you" for getting help: ![]() "Your instructions totally are too disorganized and out of whack. Seya" "WRONG. ... Blah blah blah ... Don't listen to these negative nancies." And where's the context for "Ziptnf"'s post? What is right or wrong? |

Just press F1 to boot into windows. Don't be fooled by the question marks.
