FreeBSD box dropping off network
Hi. I have a FreeBSD box (running 4.8) setup on my home network. My router (Linksys) is set up to foward specific ports to the BSD box. But periodically my BSD box drops out of sight. Then it reappears. Then it dropps off again.
Originally I thought it was a problem with my router forgetting that the BSD box existed, so I set up a cron job to ping my router every 5 minutes. That didn't seem to help much. I did some research, but nothing seems to fit. Any ideas? Thanks, Cody |

Sounds like an issue with the router - are you sure it's not faulty? You say the ping cron job didn't help much - why not?
There's a useful tool called 'apinger' for monitoring hosts which mails you when connectivity is delayed or dropped, this might be useful for your problem. apinger is in the ports under /usr/ports/net/apinger IIRC. |
