FreeBSd Instalation
Hey All,
I am trying to install FreeBSD 4.10 from CD, but when it gets to the following part it freezes. sio0: type 16550A sio1: configured irq 3 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 ppc0: <Parallel port> at port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 on isa0 ppc0: Generic chipset (ECP/PS2/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode ppc0: FIFO with 16/16/16 bytes threshold plip0: <PLIP network interface> on ppbus0 ad0: READ command timeout tag=0 serv=0 - resetting ata0: resetting devices .. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks ~Utah |

Any reason why you are choosing to install 4.1?
The latest stable version of FreeBSD is at 4.9 and the development branch is at 5.2.1. You might have more success using a newer version. |

4.10 means 4.TEN, and that is the latest stable. (easy to spot in the top right corner of http://www.freebsd.org)
I don't think I can be of much help with the actual problem though. It appears to be a hardware discrepancy, possibly the IDE controller. Check which controller chip your motherboard (or add-on card) uses and make sure it is supported: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.1...dware-i386.html Otherwise, maybe it has something to do with the DMA settings, so check those in BIOS as well. -Steven __________________ You ride a horse rather less well than another horse would. –Edmund Black Adder |
