gnucash on FreeBSD ... who's using? any problems?

Back in my Windows days, I used Quicken religiously. When I moved to FreeBSD, I chose KDE and just dealt with the fact that I wouldn't have a Quicken replacement. Then I ran accross gnuCash a while back and I've been trying to play with it in my spare time, but I'm having a few issues.

First, it takes about a minute just for the splash page to display, then it loads normally. A quick Google search indicates this is common, but doesn't really offer a why or a solution. This isn't a huge problem -- I'm patient -- but it sure is a pain.

The problem I can't handle is that for no apparent reason and through no reproducible action, gnuCash stops working; it won't load. When you select the application, nothing happens at all.

Does anybody else use gnuCash on FreeBSD? Did you have / are you having the same problems? Is there an alternative to gnuCash that is more stable on FreeBSD?

I seem to be able to get it to work continously on a Red Hat machine, but I'd really like to stay with FreeBSD.

All ideas welcome and appreciated.
