How to uninstall FreeX86 3

I found the XFree86 4 packages after installing the 3 ones from the sysinstall menu. But it seems one can not uninstall it from the sysinstall. Also pkg_info does not give out anything about 3.

The handbook only covers how to configure 4 without how to remove 3.

So before I start with any dirty work on this, is there any practice to remove the 3 cleanly so that I could install the 4? Could you please direct me to any existing docs on this or give me some hints? Thanks.

No docs, here's what I would do, if you trust me.

1) cd to /var/db/pkg and pkg_delete all installed software that rely on X.
2) rm -rf /usr/X11R6/*
3) echo "XFREE86_VERSION=4" >> /etc/make.conf
4) Then install new X from /usr/ports/x11

hi Freebsd, it worked perfectly.
actually i got the 4.1.0 installed last thu.
and i was busy this week so that i didn't touch
my freebsd box until yesterday night.
i got everything right, including the
settings for my TFT LCD, except for
my Maestro 2E sound card.
in general the box flies quite smoothly.
i really enjoy working on the XF410
on a FreeBSD 451 box.

Good experience with the Xinstall.sh script

I just upgraded the Xfree86 on my FreeBSD 4.5 box to 4.2.0. I simply backed up the old installation and ran the Xinstall.sh script that came with the binaries. I ran x with the -configure option, tweaked the config file that was generated and everything worked great. The new release works better with my video card and I am very pleased with the results. The script was very interactive and prompted before every change.
