Installing FreeBSD
Hi, I had a Windows 2000 PC, now I want to install FreeBSD. I will use it as a webserver for my own website.
Do you think I will get any trouble if I delete "everything" on my hard drive and install FreeBSD on it ? These are my hardwares: - Intel Celeron 667 Mhz - Cache: 32 kb level 1, 128 kb level 2 - Memory: 2 * 256 mb SDRAM - Chipset: Intel 810 - 15 gb hard drive, 5200 rpm Thanks in advenced for any help. |

I'd say go for it. Use 4.8.....it has X4.3 which has good i810 support. I use my 845 card no prob..
If you are really worried....get another HDD so you have something to fall back on..... |

I would have to agree with getting a second HD. On my primary test machine I have 3 HD's, each with a different OS. It keeps things seperate and playing nice with each other.
I would go for the install, but one word of advice, buy a book or distro with the install CD's. I have never gotten FreeBSD to install from a downloaded ISO.

FWIW, with the exception of FreeBSD 3.0, I've installed all my BSD systems -- FreeBSD 4.x and, before that, OpenBSD 2.x -- using a network install. I downloaded the floppy boot images, then installed across the Internet. If you've got the bandwidth to download the ISOs, you've got the bandwidth for an install across the Internet.
