Kernel trap 12
When booting into FreeBSD 4.8 RELEASE, I am getting the following error:
Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode Fault virtual address = 0x8 Fault code = supervisor read, page not present Instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc0522b1f Stack pointer = 0x10:0xdf704b48 Frame pointer = 0x10:0xdf704b54 Code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 Processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 Current process = 52 (ifconfig) Interrupt mask = net tty Trap number = 12 Panic: page fault Syncing disks... 7 3 2 2 done uptime: 1m 21s When I remove my NIC, the error does not appear. Any ideas why this is happening/how it can be fixed? |

Tried the usual swaptronics? Recompile the kernel with the driver, recompile it without and load it on boot from the module. Got another NIC like that one to try? Maybe a different brand of one with a new driver? Test your current card in another system? etc etc

Yes, I did all of the above except trying it in a different system and trying a different card in the affected system. I know it should work, as it is listed in the hardware notes, and it works fine in Linux and Windows on the same computer. FreeBSD is bootable when the driver is not compiled into the kernel AND not loaded as a module, when the NIC is not present, and when PNP OS is set to YES. However, when PNP OS is set to YES, I get an error in the dmesg.
