Mouse Trouble help!!!
I'm a newb to Unix and freeBSD, but i am very interested in learning. THe installation of freebsd 4.9 went well but im having a problem with either my mouse and/or video card. When i start Gnome and move my mouse, my screen pans right slightly and the mouse cursor moves to the top right corner and disappears. Nothing is hanging because i can tab over to start a terminal, but it has gotten somewhat frustrating. my mouse is a 3 button microsoft optical intellimouse. I have it connected my comp through a usb to ps2 adapter which came with the mouse. I have tried using usb but no success. My video card is an evga geforce mx 400 (generic). If anyone could help me it would be great thanks

I think what is happening here is this:
- You have setup a virtual screen resolution higher than your physical - You have selected the wrong mouse protocol Now, when you select the wrong mouse protocol, the mouse will jump to the upper left corner of the screen. The virtual screen will scroll all to the left then and the mouse will hang. (you can replace "left" with "right" depending on circumstances) You should try to get the mouse running via USB. Did you start the USB daemon on boot? (/stand/sysinstall, configure / startup / usbd) Also, I have always setup the console mouse driver first and then told X to connect to /dev/sysmouse. If it works on the console, it will work in X too. And you keep the hot-plugging features of USB, multi-mouse usage and such. If you still want independent mouse configuration in X, try the "IMPS2" mouse driver. HTH, M.

heres an easy solution for ur mouse problem
change the protocol from PS/2 to auto in /etc/X11/XF86Config (default location). you might also want to add in options "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" for your scroll wheel, which im guessing you have ![]()
