OSX is unix - there is tons of free editors available:

vi(m), emacs, ed, jed, joe, pico, ...

I heard there is a program called "fink" somewhere that can be used to install third-party unix software. But I never used OSX, so I canīt help you any further with that...

I've always used TextEdit to edit my config files. (Default OSX text editor)

BBedit is $180!? Wow! I've seen the demos on the MacAddict CDs, but I've never used it. Why would someone pay that much for a text editor?

One, BBedit has been around for ages and has been noted as the code editor for Mac since god knows when. Many mac developers have been using for their entire careers.

Two, its a damn good text editor still and it plays nice with Dreamweaver. Remember that DW for windows now has most of the features of Homesite intregated into it. Homesite was for the Win crowd only, however BBEdit had most of its fetures.

Now I use GoLive to do my layout work, but use BBedit for coding.

However, if you need to edit your httpd.conf file, PICO, EMACS, and VI are all included. PICO is the easiest proably.

Just goto the directory containing httpd.conf is located and type:

sudo PICO httpd.conf

You'll be promted for your admin password, enter it and happy hacking.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Is there another category such as "dumbass" that is just below "noobie" ?
