Net Config Problems

i am new to freebsd. i am setting up my network, but i need to know a few things first. i just installed my system and am trying to cvsup. it tells me it cannot find the host. sofar if i type in netstat-rn it shows

routing tables

Internet:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Exp.
default i.p. adress UGS 0 0 xl0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 0 0 lo0
so on, until the last line it says

ip address mac address UHLW 0 0 lo0

ho do i get the last line changed to show xl0 instead of the loopback???

Please show us the complete output of /sbin/ifconfig here and then we'll go from there. Also, does /etc/resolv.conf contain a valid nameserver? Please show the contents of that file here too.

no, he definitely means the resolv.conf. If there isn't one there, then create it and add a line for a dns such as:

nameserver 213.61.0.35

In this example, I added Colt Telecoms domain name server, which is just down the road ( both physically and route-wise). You should choose a server close to you. Best would be your ISP's. "man resolv.conf" for more info...

are you going to post the results of ifconfig, as Scorpions4ever asked?

-Steven
