Old Pentium pro hardware

All,

I have rescued a perfectly working dual pentium pro 200 with 384 meg of ram with a 6.4 gig drive from going to the trash. I want to use it for a file server for my little domain 5 machines with freebsd. I am very famailiar with samba but here is my problem I purchased a 80 gig drive and when I installed it in the machine it would not even give me a post beep or do anything, I unplug the new drive and it boots right up. The drive works I put it in my new athon 1.4 machine recognizes it no problem. I was wondering if anyone here thinks it would be worth the purchase of one of the promise pci add on cards and what are some of your experiences with this card. It is a micronics motherboard and I can't find a bios update for this motherboard anywhere.

Thank you
