ppp hangs on entering "term"
I tried to connect to the Internet from FreeBSD using KDE following the instructions in the manpages "man ppp." it says to launch ppp and then term with the phone number. Right after I enter "term" the desktop and mouse freeze so I have to log out of KDE. It is interesting that it did not hang from under AfterStep.

Hi NT,
although I probably can't help you with the ppp problem directly, since I haven't used PPP in ages and cannot test it, I would recommend posting the version of KDE that you have installed. Someone may be familiar with this behavior. Since it works inder another desktop, it just might be an bug in your version of KDE. I assume it is quite old, since you mentioned you are using 4.7. Did you install the ports system? (the ports system is one of the greatest boons of FreeBSD). If not, I would highly recommend it. And I would recommend running CVSup and getting it up to date. If you get that done, then upgrading the entire KDE system (which is quite large) is as simple as: portupgrade kde3 and off she goes. Depending on your processor and memory, it can take some time though, because it really is a very large software system. I never tried setting up sound on FreeBSD. Maybe you could post some tips when you get done? --Steven __________________ Run away from the hills! If you see the hills, run the other way! –Edmund Black Adder |
