Thanks for your interest in trying to help, actually i found 2 off the suggested sites and still couldnt get it to work. I think my nic is not properly installed. When i do a ifconfig my nic appears as X10
when i try to assign an ip so i can ssh it says X is not a recognizable value etc... but when I compile the KERNEL it shows 3com905b-tx so im clueless at this point. So out of frustration i went to buy a router. So now I just added to the stress.

TIA

Hehe, I had the same problem... it's xl0 "ex-el-zero" not x10.

Also, it's a lower case x, not upper case.

Unlike most Linux users, when you are a FreeBSD user, you will definitely want to compile a custom kernel for optimization. Though xl0 with 0 is for ISA device. For PCI you only need xl plus other appropriate miibus or so.

Really? What happens if I have two 3c905-TX cards?

as you can see it detects my 3com as xl0???(its a PCI card!)

I already compiled a custom KERNEL for myself.
I tried everything to try to get online with my sympatico DSL internet but no scripts worked.

so I bought a router, added ifconfig_xl0="DHCP" (rc.conf) and voila my bsd was finally on-line and assigned an ip. So now i have a static ip, no more need for dns2go.
Until I added that value to rc.conf nothing worked, the strange thing was I was able to ping the router and local host with succes.

If you have any suggestions let me no.

TIA

I was referring to the device name in MYKERNEL config file, usually with xl* for PCI card. If you have two identical PCI cards, you'd specify that device name once.
