problems configuring firewall

I am having troubles with configuring my firewall

I want to block ports, but for some reason it's being stubborn

This is what i've tried

firewall.conf:

...
add allow all from any to any
add deny tcp from any to localhost 110
add deny tcp from any to localhost 25
add allow tcp from localhost to localhost 110
add allow tcp from localhost to localhost 25
...

This doesn't do anything even without the last 2 lines. anyone can still access these ports.

another way

firewall.conf:

add allow tcp from any to localhost 22

Thats all i had in that file, and i got locked out of my machine for a couple days because i only had remote access for a period of time

Any solutions?
note: i've tried the same commands using the ipfw command

If you don't get your leftover mess taken care of it's relatively difficult for you to get any help here.
Please ACT and delete your original thread here. (original thread starter (you) can delete his/her own thread)
Just a reminder, CROSS POSTING is a serious forum violation.

i don't see what the hell your problem is. If everyone in this forum is as helpful as you i have no reason to be here. I'm relatively new to unix, and I thought the firewall might be similar in other unix platforms. Which would mean perhaps someone else could help me. I let my platform be known, and the thought that it might belong in the other forum because I thought it might belong in the other forum(This means i questioned if my actions were correct, meaning i didn't know they were incorrect(so according to what you call spamming it wasn't).

note:

probably == Most likely
likely == has a good chance of being the case
chance == The likelihood of something happening; possibility

knowingly == with full knowledge and deliberation

possibility == full knowledge??

I was not going to post it again in the bsd forum because i didn't want to spam. I was also unaware people other than moderators could delete forum threads.

I do not appriciate being attacked. Note: i reposted as you said i should, and i deleted the past message as soon as i found out i was capable. There was no intention in "spamming" as you can see, and I'm offended that you would accuse me of such things. I ask that you examine things more thoroughly before you are so quick to judge.

>> i don't see what the hell your problem is

Your problem is that, you didn't read the forum guidelines, which you should have done prior to joining.

>> This means i questioned if my actions were correct, meaning i didn't know they were incorrect

What a lame explanation. You knew beforehand that IPFW is only available in FreeBSD. And you are asking non-FreeBSD users the syntax/ruleset of IPFW, WTF?
That's why I told you to delete your wrong post, then repost to this forum.
Don't forget, you have changed the subject title from Firewall in BSD in Security forum to this one as problems configuring firewall. Your intention was crystal clear: you are trying to tell us that you are really NEW in BSD to defend yourself when you say meaning i didn't know they were incorrect. There is absolutely no way a FreeBSD user who is about to use IPFW would think that IPFW is available in any other OS.

>> so according to what you call spamming it wasn't

No spammers in the world would ever admit spamming. Just like you made a post to the WRONG forum and I told you to make the correction and stop doing it again and then you didn't like what I say. In other words, you don't admit faulty. Never forget that it's your own responsibility to READ THE DAMN GUIDELINES, Not having me to remind you what they are all about. If you don't intend to follow the guildelines, you may continue to stay, but I bet nobody will give you any help, as if Luspher username doesn't even exist. You chose to be this way.

>> I was also unaware people other than moderators could delete forum threads

I don't blame you for being a newbie not being familiar with the features of vBulletin. That's why I told you to delete this thread THEN repost to BSD forum.

>> i reposted as you said i should, and i deleted the past message

As of 5:37AM PST March 24th, both threads exist. Therefore, you have knowingly (because I told you beforehand) violated CROSS POSTING rule. You might be lazy and don't wanted to read the whole damn guidelines, that's why I reminded you not to violate it but obviously you refused to follow it and chose to challenge Devshed's guidelines.

>> I do not appriciate being attacked

WTF? You are being the attacker spamming Devshed forums all over the places. We the members are under attack.

>> There was no intention in "spamming" as you can see

WTF? I told you to delete your orginal post but you didn't ACT.

wtf???. i honestly pressed the delete button. i'll go back and check on that. Sorry about getting so defensive last night i was in a really bad mood. Rode in a car with my parents for 11 hours who are divorced. not a pretty sight. Call me naive but i didn't know ipfw was freebsd specific. I've never worked with the firewall in any other operating system but windows, and that really doesn't say much lol. I ask you to believe me when i say i didn't mean to spam because I truly did not :-\. I'm gonna go ahead and read the guidelines later tonight though so I don't make other stupid mistakes. Again I apologize for the way i responded. I'm gonna go check on what the hell is going on with the post. It could be that i closed the window too soon after i pressed the button. If they have an http log here. Than check on 68.50.55.213 and you'll see that i did press the button.

I've never seen anyone get so offended by someone not reading the forum guidelines, so i never thought twice about not reading them. Since it bothers you so much though. I will read them. I'm sorry if I upset you with that. It was not intentional(upsetting you).

Again I apologize for my actions (reacting the way i did, and not reading the guidelines)

dont use this forum, messages could be taken for spam / but let the forum spamming you over with the dozens of newsletters you subscribed when registering your acount here / don't even think to argue against a senior member with over 3600 messages who must have read the DAMNed GUIDELINES (unlike me)

Hey man,

This arguments been over for a good long while now. No need to strike it back up. I do admit I was in the wrong. However, it was due to my own ignorance, not intention. I must also add that the reason I went off so easily is that it was a rough time in my life. I'm aware it's no excuse, and I no longer expect any help for what I've done. I made an *** of myself. I apologize for that. Do us all a favor man, no need to be a troll. Just enjoy the forums.

My apologies,
Luspher
