question about permissions
I am attempting to install StarOffice52, and since when you do "make install" it loads a graphical interface, I am getting denied because I am su'ed in as root when it tries to connect to the x server.
I then tried to do installation with my regular UID, and it tells me I can't execute the binary. The weird part is that I connected from work, did a make install from their, and the graphical dialogue popped up right there. I assume because root was not banned from running the x server on my remote workstation. I am going to investigate how to allow root to start the server (temporarily), but in leau of the that does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks! Brett |
