redundant network / webservers
Ok, this question can probably be posted on several sections, but since we use freebsd servers, I'll do it here.
I have about 10 webservers which need network redundancy, each machine has 2 nic both with an own ip / subnet and each nic is connected to a separate cisco switch. So I have 2 seperate subnets / 2 switches. I want to servers / sites still to be available if one of the nic's in the machine or one the the 2 switches stops working. I thought of making 2 A records for each machine in the dns zone, and thought of a round robin kind of thing. But somehow I don't think this will work ... does anyone have an idea on how to create this kind of redundancy. Thanx a lot. Marc |

While I don't have an answer myself, I was wondering the same thing.

Well I'm going to use the dns round robin thing so I can provide some minimal kind of datatraffic load balancing within the two subnets. But I still can't totally figure out the failover between the two subnets / switches / nic's.

Maybe you can find more infos here:
- http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/HighAvailability.html - http://www.linux-ha.org/ There is also a project called Kimberlite. it's all linux, but I think it can be easily ported to *BSD. Hope this helps!
