running multiple daemons 4 apache2 on freebsd 5.2
Hello need some advise and help
Background: Test project to run multiple local sites on Unix platform. I have FreeBSD 5.2b running with apache 2. I have configured 5 virtual hosts, but due to a bug in our proxy server and environment setup the sites are not reachable. The only work around is to manually configure the proxy settings in web browser. The default is for web traffic to be redirected to the proxy automatically. All sites are reachable when proxy is manually configured. I been asked to explore a way to avoid local users from having to manually set their proxy. So I am searching for a solution, that would allow me to run multiple hosts without using the virtual host configuration. What I have done so far: I initially installed apache via ports, but now I have installed via source for the second instance of Apache. I copied the .sh and modified the file locations to match the second installation of apache. I had to create some links to the configuration and apacectl locations under the /usr/local/etc dir. I tried to start the second instance and the results were that httpd (pid XXX) already running So I have changed the logs/httpd.pid file to a different value. That apparently worked so I have both servers running. However, I am finding that I have to install a second instance of php for the second instance of apache. Does anyone have a better way, cause this is a lot of work for several sites. tks |
