Question Something weird happening... Any help really appreciated

Hi there all, I am currently experiencing problems our intranet server. We are currently running freeBSD 4.11 apache13, php 4.3.11 mysql-323.

Basically last week we had a contractor come in and during some work he was doing on the server, he managed to gzip the entire contents of the /etc directory and a few others as well. Once we finally restored all the compressed files back to normal state using the freeBSD fixit disk, everything appeared to be working correctly......

However, we have been noticing some strange things happening. For example. PHP was compiled with openssl to allow https connections to a server we need to read. Everynow and again the connections https drops out, and we have to restart apache to restore. I am trying to work out whether it is a permissions thing or something else.

I have looked in the httpd-error.log file and the only common thing I can find, since the even is a heap of the following errors:

[Tue Oct 25 00:00:01 2005] [warn] child process 4314 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Tue Oct 25 00:00:03 2005] [warn] child process 4314 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM

Can anyone give me a heads up on what is happening? whether it could be persmissions thing, or something else I need to possibly look at.

Cheers

I don't know. But if I were you I'd just reinstall apache and PHP. Seems it's time for an upgrade anyway...

hi there thanks for the reply, I actually re-installed php and got rid of all the segmentation 11 errors. It was actually because mcrypt was upgraded through portupgrade, and broke PHP installation, and the new version of the port mcrypt breaks php and I have not had the chance to install libmvrypt yet, so just rebuild php without it for now. and that solved the problem......
