Unfortunately RealTek 8139 chipset is not so compatible with *BSDs. It's being the worst in NetBSD. Guess what, even in a 100baseT full-duplex (with switch) local network, you will have to downgrade it to use 10baseT. Or else, you would see watchdog timeout error.
The best low-end chipset would be the one (Linksys) that uses dc driver.
