Hearing periodic beeping noises in FreeBSD
Here is my system information first of all :
FreeBSD blackhole.hvc.rr.com 8.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE #2: Fri Feb 25 19:13:16 EST 2011 kevin(at)blackhole.hvc.rr.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ELITE i386
I won't post my dmesg unless necessary. That would just be flooding so just my uname at first.
Anyway, ever since I edited crontab, to run a custom script of mine, I've been hearing beeping noises from my computer from time to time. My question for people more experienced with crontab on FreeBSD is does crontab make beeping noises or is this noise something more serious I should look into ? Thanks for any input in advance. Anyway, I only think it might not be crontab because it doesn't make the beeping noises only when it is supposed to run my script. I'm also constantly logged onto irc and have other things running so I'm not sure what it is really. I don't see any things on irc that should be making the noises though in the channels I'm on. I also run tmux with irc and other things in terminal running under it. The 'man beep' page isn't much help but now that I think of it it is probably some benign tmux thing. It is only driving me crazy because I can't pin it down exactly.

crontab doesn't send its output to your terminal, so it can't make the beeping noises. Check if your computer beeps even when you're not sitting at the terminal, it might be a hardware issue.
