bad client who lied to paypal? what can I do.?

Hello, I happen to be a developer and recently had a client who was horrible on top of that after giving him a contract the client while in the course of me doing work told me he was 14. After this the client had the nerve to start harrassing me. I completed the project, and also included as part of the cost of the project me buying some stuff to modify which the client was aware of. After completing the project, client went to paypal(which is what I use for clients to pay me) and said I didnt complete the project, I was not fullfilling my contract and he wanted all his money back.

What's paypal's history on going with the buyer or will it be easy enough for me to tell paypal this and them stop holding my funds. Also client at this point I know for a fact did not have his guardian sign off on the paypal as allowing him(he signed up himself and lied about age.)

Thanks alot.

Paypal dont offer refunds for services to what I know.
I fell for that once, but it was the coder that ripped me off, so the other way around.

Basically, complete the project, and give him the work, that way you are covered if he reports you to the police, or fraud desk.

Paypal should believe you, and if you wouldnt mind, could you please share the contract that you made?

Edit, also take a look at www.paypalsucks.com

Steven Billings

well the work as I said was done, he actually went out of his way to harrass me whenever he could. I told him that my time was precious and as stated on the contract that he would only get without my concent 1.5 hours of chat time. for the project it ended up more like 4 hours chat time, 10 hours total with him calling me every day wanting a update(the project was only a week long.) and generally him accusing me of not being a good person and for me following the contract to the T, which is standard procedure when a contract is involved.

basically the client felt I owed hime more for nothing, which as I explained to him he was not going to get.

as with the contract I can not disclose it. however, it says all work is final and no refunds are given if the customer changes his mind. In all reality the money I got for my time was around 200 after me buying the software I was to work on.

as with your problem I am sorry to hear you got ripped off. if you were a good client then even more so.

Yea,
The easiest thing is to mark it down as a service... if they ask for shipping information, then mark all the boxes and say 'service - client received service and is on contract'

At that point, paypal will realize they will not hold any sort of liabilities or action as this is a service.

If he was 14, there is not too much that can be done. If he has a Paypal account, that is against the TOS. If you have his address, send a certified letter to his parents. (I know I always hated seeing those letters when I was a kid )

Also consider updating your TOS, take a quick read at Sell Your Chargebacks
