I think it depends upon your location and amount you are expected to process with, as per my knowledge paypal, 2checkout are the widely used payment gateways for US and asian countries, worldpay/moneybookers/chronopay are preferred choice for EU countries.

etechsupport is correct - it all depends on your country and how much you are going to be processing. We are in the United States and use Cardservice as our merchant account provider and LinkPoint as the electronic payment gateway
