It's generally just best to get permission.
If you have permission from the band, post the info.
If you have permission from MySpace, post a feed directly using MySpace's resources.
As far as updates from the band goes, they more than likely have a mailing list that you could get on in addition to what is going on at MySpace.
If they don't, they can set one up for free at various places and it never hurts to promote via as many platforms as possible. Some people don't check their email but check MySpace. Some people loathe MySpace but check email. Other people check your website.
Really, the safest thing to do would be to research the information about the events and then write about them in your own words.
