Company Name
Hello,

I am thinking of using the name "sprint" in a domain/company name - sprintwebdesign.com. However would i be allowed to do this, because of the mobile phone company Sprint - http://www.sprint.com/. I was thinking the use of the name "sprint" would be ok, but thought i best check.

This is a gray area. Trademarks are not cut in stone. In this case I think because its likely that Sprint also has a web technology presence that you would, in fact, be running into their trademark.

If you still wish to pursue the name schedule an hour with an IP attorney it shouldn't cost that much for a quick consult to get a professional opinion on this.

My opinion is: don't tempt fate.

Its not a copyright it is a trademark. ;-)

Thanks for the correction, what is the difference between a copyright and a trademark? Does a trademark mean you cant use the name, or is the the name "Sprint" a copyrighted trademark?

I gave you a link to the USPTO patent and trademark office so you can inform yourself on both here is the Copyright office read the FAQs on both to start...

A trademark protects a name. You can't copyright a name.
