Copyright registration?!

We've been working on a fairly large website project over the last couple of months and we're going to publish it by the end of this year. I've been wondering, if we file a copyright protection in the EU, would that only be valid within the EU or would it also be valid in the US? Or do we have to file a seperate copyright protection overseas?

I hate all this law stuff, so confusing

To the best of my knowledge, you'd have to file for both.

If you file in the US you are covered by all countries with copyright agreements with the US. This includes pretty much all of Europe, for starters. See Circular 38a ...

That is the case. All this information can be accessed easily by simply going to http://www.copyright.gov/ ... no lawyer required :-\ A good place to start are the links "Copyright Basics" and "Frequently Asked Questions" ...

Just as a side note, a copyright is usually implied on website designs, graphics, etc.

Keep the original files (photoshop, etc.) and you're good -- since the files have a time stamp and thus show you made it first. You don't necessarily need to file a copyright.

thanks for the sidenote hopstream I've backed up all the original files and put them in a safe place. I do that pretty much every week or so..just to be on the safe side!
