Credit Card Payments
I would like the advice from you guys (and gals) about receiving credit card payments.
I currently use Paypal and people can pay without setting up an account. As far as I'm concerned, it works great. The only problem is that 1/3 of the people signing up aren't paying. I'd like to use a credit card company that allows me to insert the credit card form into my template. Also, I run a small business and can't afford to pay a setup or monthly fee (which is why I like paypal so much). So, my list of requested features would be:

I you are in the United States, doing more than $1,000 a month - a merchant account is affordable. Those fees are charges to help keep the company in business - since most businesses do need to make money to function.
Otherwise - you need a 3PP which will charge usually per transaction. Paypal and 2CO are two options. And you will be limited on the checkout pages. A merchant account with an electronic payment gateway that provides an API will allow you to accept & process credit cards on your secure website

Hello,
From my own experience, if you are not ready to pay a set up fees ,or monthly fee ,Your best option is to stay with paypal. You can check charge.com if you live in U.S.A.. Wish you the best, |

Actually charge.com is only a reseller for Cardservice. Charge.com's customer service basically refers you over to CSI (which they should) but a lot of times - it is a simple question that the reseller should be able to answer

You may try Merchantboss.com. It's no setup fee, no monthly fee. They seem to be a good reliable company.

It really depends on what country you are in. Merchantboss seems to have quite a number of unhappy customers because of the way thy stared out. And they say they have been in business two years yet their domainj name was only registered a year ago. They will not answer what other name they have used in the past either.
Just a few things that I have read on other forums. Always research the company thoroughly before signing up & giving them your money |

Merchantboss seems interesting and could be what I want but the security that I've seen so far isn't too enticing. Just for starters, when I registered, the password field was just a regular text field, and they sent my password in the "welcome letter". That really doesn't make me feel secure.
What I have noticed is that they do allow me to use my own templates, but I'm still working on that whole thing. Also, unlike Paypal, you must enter in "items" and their prices. So if you put something on discout, you have to change the URL to the payment page for that item and add it to their system. |

Corey our company was not working with processing. We started working as money processor a year ago. But Merchantboss was founded 2 years ago ^-)
Concerning security. Merchantboss has very modern processing system. If you need any further info about processing and MB you may ask! |

That you might. But still, a simple thing such as a starred out password field is very surprising and not very reassuring if I'm going to trust you with processing credit card payments. |

So let me get this straight. People signup & your code automatically creates their account after they click Submit?
Before my business became successful, Paypal was my choice, i later went to 2CO, which costs about 50$US to signup but is PPT from then on. They worked well, then i finally made enough to open a merchant account and use Authorize.net, which is superior. |

Did you notice an increased percentage of people who paid when they got to the checkout screen when you went to 2CO? I'm using Paypal right now, but it seems that alot of people get to the payment screen, realize that it's Paypal, and then don't pay (probably because they think they have to create an account, although they don't.) |

Security. When you register with MB you need to install SSL at your site, this will guarantee security. Our domain also has SSL installed, so there's nothing to worry about.
