Ecommerce and Taxes

I had a few questions about collecting taxes online. Do online retailers have to collect taxes for purchases made in other states? I've heard there might be an uniform tax in the future but i have no idea what goes on currently.

I believe the current law says you are required to collect sales tax in any state that you currently do physical business. If you just ship stuff from your home, chances are that you'd only have to collect sales taxes in your home state. However, if you run a business that is headquartered from one state and has a warehouse in another that the orders are sent out from, you'd have to collect sales taxes in both states.
