Question ECommerce decisions for tophatweddings.co.uk

Hi there,

I am considering starting an ecommerce site to couple with my wedding website.

First of all, I am considering whether or not to open a eBay store to try out some of the products rather than just go all out with a full blown ecommerce solution straight away....Any thoughts?

Secondly, I am looking at osCommerce (php) to setup my own store, does anyone know anywhere I can get some good, templates from? Is osCommerce a good ecommerce package to use?

Your thoughts and opinions on these matters are appreciated.

Hi!

I cannot help you with the online shop choice desision as i have never used ones as the products i sell are too expensive to retail live online really.

I would say that probably your ebay-shop tradeoff is a combination of a couple of factors, time, money and image.

Ebay no doubt has some good shops, however I would generally say that they may be viewed at lower quality and with less control than if you have your own shop.

If you have your own shop you can customise things easier and faster.

I would say, if you have the time and funds available, go into it hard. If its going to work its going to work with the most time and best image going into it, people appreciate style and ease of use.

You need to start by identifing your market and choose the best way to target it.

One advantage of ebay is you will probably be found faster and easier than on your own site.....

As with everything in life its a tradeoff!!
