Gain more hits
I have created a site, and it is doing quite well, although, i feel that there is a lack of people that know about my site. Can anyone suggest ways in which I can increase the number of people who know about my site. It as to be cheap and easy. maybe a leaflet drop or something.

No i dont want that as im already top ranking site, for the main keyword. My site is about a local town, and so some how i need they local people to become more aware. I need a cheap way of advertising

Local newspapers. Especially, if you have them in your town as nearly every major US city does, the free weekly papers that have event listings, etc. Typically the printed ad rate is fairly reasonable.

Is your target audience not internet users? If you're top ranked, you're getting the majority of people in that city that use the internet for "things related to the city". I guess it just depends on how your site is structured.

A lot of city sites offer link exchanges, where you place a link to a local company's web site if they place a link to yours (they go first obviously). If you can show that you're a top ranked site when people search for the city in which their business is located or in which they do business, most are willing to do this. This should inrease hits with zero cost to you.

yes, but what i am saying is not many people search for my town, and i want users of this town to know about my site more.

Local newspapers, shop windows, basicaly the same as if you were advertising a lawn mower. In all cases the most effective medium is word of mouth.

Put a bumper sticker on your car. Then you have advertising every where you go in your small town. Also consider getting t-shirts (cafepress lets you just order them as you need them) or sponsoring a little league team.

Yeah i like the bumper sticker idea. However there is a slight problem. I dont have a car!! Anyway, i suppose my mum wouldnt mind some in the window of her car and my dad!
