Getting payments from clients

Hi,

I recently wanted to set up a website to receive a payment from some clients. I am wondering how I can do this. I have been searching on google and nearly all of it is just adverts.
Can anyone suggest ways as to how I can receive payments by credit card/bank account numbers? Is there anyway to set up my own website to do that or do I have to connect with a third party? I am new at this topic so please excuse any randomness.

CountR

The following companies will accept credit cards on your behalf

-paypal
-2checkout.com (2co)
-authorize.net
-ccavenue.com
-psigate.com

These companies are referred to as merchant processors.

If you search google for the "Merchant Account" these companies and many more come up.

Each of these companies process there orders differently.
For example Paypal and 2co require you to send your customer to their page to complete the order. Its less professional, but the cost of doing business with them is lower(paypal=free).

Guys like Authorize.net and Psigate.net provide API gateways where you can code something in perl, php, c++, java, whatever to send the information to them without your customers leaving the page.

Another thing you need to look at is what each company requires your minimum sales to be each month.

For example, Psigate requires you to sell $500 a month in products or services. If you do not sell $500 in one month, they charge you a $50 penalty. This is on top of the per transaction fee they take, plus any monthly service fees.

Guys like Paypal and 2co have no minimum monthly sales amounts.

Do lots of research. If all else fails, talk to your nearest big bank(not some little bank) and ask how to accept credit cards online.

Hope this helps
