GPL question
First of all, this has probably already been asked, but I can't find any information on it and I have searched quite a bit. So, I apologize in advance.
Anyway, I have a simple question about the GPL licencing. I think I know the answer, but I thought I would ask before I get in over my head. Can I do the following. Take a script or program released under the GPL, modify it so it says 'downloaded at mysite.com' somewhere in the script, keep everything the same, but just add that little piece of code, and then offer it for download from my servers? I believe the answer is yes, but I would just like to verify this so I don't break any rules. Thank you ghoti |

Yes. That's pretty much it. Although, you'll want to mention that you modified the code.
Are you sneaking in the "downloaded from" part?? Because that's not going to be appreciated. |

I don't want to 'sneak' it in or anything. I just figured it would be ok to put that at the end of the scripts that have links to the developer sites. Of course, I would never remove those links either, but I just figured the developers wouldn't mind me putting an extra little link there. Do you think it would cause a lot of hostility? EDIT I dont' know if I should close this topic, but it has kind of continues over here http://forums.devshed.com/dev-shed-...-do-372348.html Any replies should be posted here. Thanks |

Possible
This is full fledged legally supported. and most of the GPL products are relying on this and doing like that.
