How Much Should I Charge for A Web Site with Oscommerce?

I am a web site designer that is fifteen years old. I have never actually designed a business site before until now. I need some help determining a price for this web site. (URL address blocked: See forum rules) It has just some basic page with forms and a calendar. Then, the oscommerce site has been customized via CSS to match the main web pages. Can someone give me a ballpark figure on what to charge? Thanks.

The URL for the site didn't make it into your post, so I can't look at what you've done already.

However, you mentioned the site has forms and a calendar, which sounds pretty basic. If you're not doing any heavy lifting like database administration or nasty CGI, then I don't think you can expect too much in the way of payment.

My suggestion is to figure out how many proper hours of work you've put into the project, then charge by the hour at a nominal rate.

The nominal rate, in your case, should probably be something like $12 per hour, but that will vary depending on where you live, how complicated the site actually is, and so forth.

Good luck!

Colin

It all depends on exactly how much work goes into it. For my freelancing, I charge $250 for a PSD file with all the layers, an additional $100 for one *working* page that they can later use and cut and paste for additional pages, or charge $50 per page to do it myself.

So I would charge about $50 an hour, if its going to be an online business, it should pay for itself shortly.
