Ignorant Host
I recently purchased a dedicated server(ManageMyBox), and shortly afterwards I was not happy with the host's services. I used about 50% what I paid for so they said they would prorate me the days I did not use the server.
Now, the problem. I asked for backups once my server was cancelled. One week later, nothing, so my partner makes a post on WHT, and magically it "gets done that day"(the host replied in the thread with an excuse, being busy or something of that sort) Two days later, they reply to my support ticket saying my server had been reformatted by the datacenter. So, they decide to give me a full refund. I had about 6 different projects I was working on there and all my progress had been deleted. Along with all my customer details. To be fair, they did give me a full refund, but my losses are far greater than the sixty dollars I received. Am I entitled to anything, or should I just cut my losses and go on?

Cut your losses and go on. Let this be a lesson to you: 1. Don't rely on your webhost as being the ONLY place that these files exist. Keep a copy locally. 2. While they offer good prices, don't rely on hosts that are run by one person. That's a big problem these days, everyone tries to offer their own hosting services, and these things happen. Use a more reliable (albeit a little pricier) company like RackSpace. Edit: also, now would be a good time to mention that most hosts do provide backup services, but not to you. They will restore your data in the event of a bad drive or disaster, but you'll probably NEVER see those backups. I had this problem once before in the past, and the host told me that I should be keeping my own backups too, even though they "provide" it as a service. Even if your host says they provide backups, ALWAYS keep your own.

I'll make a note of that, thanks. But isn't that kind of false advertising? They make it seem as though they're a large company, but no matter what "section" of the host I contacted, it was the same person.

How is that false advertising?
1. Were any claims about the number of employs made? 2. Were any claims about annual revenues, number of clients or the like ever made? 3. Because you have been in contact with only one person how does that mean there is only one person there? Often the same person will follow up on subsequent issues because there's already a ticket open on you.

3. I've had three support tickets, all to different sections. Sales, Technical Support, Reboot. Everytime, Nick replies...even when I called, he's the one who answered the phone. |

not false advertising, sorry. their ad statement makes no actual claims at all. what you read into that is your fault. the text refers to a guarantee, but is itself not a guarantee. It's an ad/preamble.
My car is a PZEV: Partial Zero Emission Vehicle. Please explain that to me ... :-) |

Ok, thanks =D I wanted to make sure there was nothing else I could do. Luckily one of my staff had backed up the databases/files the previous day so I'm not at a great loss =)
And...PZEV = no horsepower :P |
