Is he responsible?
Hi there,
I have a question. I'm going to launch my website. Its content is somehow against the US copyright laws. And I have a friend living in La, California. Here's the question: If my friend buys me the webspace, will he be responsible for the contents of my website? He wants to do me a favour by buying the webspace for me, but I don't want to put him in legal troubles. Thank you Last edited by ommmmid : February 17th, 2006 at 02:39 AM. I would say yes.
Your friend is providing the means for you to break the law, just like Napster provided the means for its users to share files illegally. It's also the reason hosting companies have written policies against hosting copyrighted material. With that said, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a host that would allow you to use them when you're knowingly and willingly breaking copyright laws.
