Is this Adware?
We're implementing a website that provides free service for users. However, user will need to download a client software to connect to our server. Our plan is to generate revenue by running banner ad inside a limited rectagle in the client sfotware. Due to various reason I can not go into details about this client software and the service.
Other than the banner ad contained in the client the software has no malware/spyware and it does not use popups to show advertisement. my question is : Is this still considered as adware? |

Yes I'd say so and I'd say you're going to have one heck of a time trying to get any user to actually install it. You'd better have a darned good service you're providing to make it worth that. Even if it's not malicious the fact that you're requiring people to use your own client screams at the possibility and users have had the "never can be too safe" message hammered into their skulls by now.
Why not instead: 1. Just display banners on your site in the first place 2. Make a paid content site if it's a valuable service with the usual sessioning login
