Is this legal?
I came across this website through the Adsense ads.
http://www.anime-direct.com/ It offers animes which have not yet licensed in the US. It is what they claim on their website: "Is this legal? Yes, it's legal. We only host anime that is not released or licensed in the United States ( where we are located ). By refusing to host already licensed anime we avoid any legal issues." So it is legal to replicate the digital materials offshore whenever they've not released and licensed locally? After a quick search, I also found another similar site: http://danimeftp.com/ (Both these 2 sites have been running over 1 year.) Say, I have a soft copy of a drama series from Japan. It has not been released yet in the US, so I can distribute it in the US? |

In short, no.
When a work, such as the films being distributed by these sites, is licensed in one locale and not another, the unlicensed locale must abide by the licensed locale's terms.
