Legal obligations
Ok so im wondering, as part of the payment from a website im making, ive been offered advertising space. Now my problem is, i dont actually have a registered company. I create websites as an interest. If i were to take up the offer of advertising space in which to advertise my "company", would that be illegal?

The only thing you need to do is go to your town's city hall and register as a business. It usually costs $25 or so, and they will give you a business license. If you need anything else in your state, they will tell you. To start with, you don't need to incorporate or set up an LLC. Just do business as (dba) whatever name you choose, get the entrylevel accounting and tax software, and remember that as a dba you are personally liable. |

rbeschizza is right. However, if my (old) memory serves me correctly, you (Andrew) are based in the UK. Things may be different there than they are here in the US.
At any rate, I don't see what harm there is in advertising. Just be prepared for any influx of work caused by it. And, as a final point, I would personally register as an LLC here in the states, due to the financial protection available. A DBA may still be required. |

You don't necessarily need to have a company registered for this.
Lot of people work as sole proprietors and simple do business by their web site's name.

Hi!
I have a webdesign business in the states. In my part of the country, I don't need a business license for webdesign. I'm sure it's different than California, but different states (well, countries for this matter) have different rules. // Ryan |
