Probably not. Copyright would probably come into play so if your not paying the original artist (& hence their compnay, it is breaking copyright law). (ps I'm not a legal expert just my opinion). Just my 2 cents (euro cents) Displeaser

Right to Display
The answer is a definitive NO unless you have permission.

The copyright holder. In this case it's probably the record company. Check the copyright office's FAQs for basic info:

Moved from the Lounge to Business Help.
Questions regarding copyright and other legal matters belong in this forum. Thanks.

Thanks coder.
It seems probably lots of people are using that script but just because it's commonly in use doesn't make it right and doesn't mean the property owners can't go after you. As seen by the whole p2p fiasco the big shots sometimes choose to go after little guys just to prove they can. In this scenario what would usually happen is you will get a cease and desist letter telling you to stop immediately. If you don't then they may litigate. If you appear to be grossly profiting from it (which it seems you wouldn't be) then they might just litigate outright and also demand you immediately stop both. But it's really the call of anyone who could claim damages to decide it it's worth it to pursue. This is why so many get away with it. But I must restate that doesn't in fact mean that you will get away with it nor that some other folks won't eventually get some trouble of it. Also, you'd appear to be violating a TOS with apple as well. Though I don't know too much about what that is because I'm not into the iTunes thing. I still buy CDs and rip them myself at high quality. Call me an old school fool :-) You may want to call an entertainment attorney. They might be aware of blanket licenses you can buy to many catalogues for not much money if you have a small targeted audience and you're mostly promoting the product. |

How about if I managed to get something set up with Amazon Web Services? Would that be legal?

It makes no difference where you get the picture you need to secure the right to display it. Get it? If there is a license grant that Amazon can extend to you through their agreement, then yes, but only if it's explicitly in the writing and they have the right to grant you the right in the first place.
You really didn't need a second thread. |
