marketing campaign legal issue
Hi,
I apologize in advanced if this question is in a wrong forum. I thought someome might be able to help me out. I make websites for small businnesses. I make their website and and fax a copy of their website to them , asking them if they want to have this website , then contact us. When I make their website I do not exactly spell their compmay name the way it is. If the compnay name is "Intergra Inc", then I spell it "Antegra Inc". I was wondering is there any problem in what I am doing, in other words am I doing anything illegal.... Thanks

Doesn't sound like it. As long as you are faxing during business hours

Thanks for your reply. I am just little concerned about
unsolicited fax part. Also making someone website (though not a complete website just a front page only) with out their approval, could possibly cause problem too. Unless i misspell their name ..like making "John Associates" to Johnnnn Associates" |

What I personally would prefer as a potential customer would be a phone call before hand saying I would like to make a mockup for you and fax it to you at no cost.
Business owners will say sure or no. Then you don't waste your time on those that say no anyways. Spend more time on the qualified leads and you'll make more money with less effort. |

Regarding the fax issue:
http://www.junkfax.org/fax/news/ Unsolicited faxes are even worse than SPAM. You put virtually the entire burden of the cost for your marketing campaign on your recipients. And the costs can be excessive. If you're faxing during business hours to a number you are taking up valuable line time whilst legitimate business is trying to be conducted over the same fax machine. The best are the ones advertising Toner. We wouldn't need so much toner if you'd stop sending us these faxes! </RANT>

We have a 3 page fax for those that keep faxing us. It is white letters on an all black background and says 1 word on each page: Stop Faxing Us
Uses up lots of there tonner. |

We used to have this way of doing it.
Some newbee signed us up for ol' fax.com. Hundreds of faxes a day. So what we did was created a fax as a processing rule, and made it so that every time a fax came in from that particular number, it would send back a fax with "No fax" only there were tons of black marks inside, which was overbloated on their fax machine, effectively blowing away THEIR toner. Haha bastards. They stopped sending it to us for some reason . That's what you should do. Make a fax and put small black marks inside the words "NO FAX". That way it will take longer to make (has to make those small dots) and it will cost them more in toner (sometimes it will make the black mark more than it's supposed to.)
