New game idea. New member. Need advice.
Good evening; Finally decided to embark on developing this potentially exciting nonviolent game idea I've been entertaining in my nogget for 2 yrs. now. Trouble is, I don't know the 1st thing about programing, dev. Was instructed visit Python by the good fellas at TSG (Techsupportguy).
They said if I didn't wann'a hire a pro. maybe I'm capable of aquiring the knowledge myself & producing a 3D type console street game I have in mind. Will probably have enough $ to copyright and also my own lawyer. Anyone here have a better suggestion or instructions ? Is this the way to go? Any info. is appreciated. ![]() |

Starting off with the idea is great. Maybe you should find a friend that has atleast some programming skills to help you create a demo for the game.
It is important that you have something to show for it. Also, if you are planning this game to thrive on the Internet, then maybe you could GPL the code and get some opensource developers interested in your game and start developing it. |

^ Copyright filing is $30. Lawyers cost more ;-) As for learning how to develop a 3D console game for someone who presently "don't know the 1st thing about programing" ... I think you might want to get the Hello, World program running first ... along with 100 additional smaller projects, then think about it again.

I guess it goes without saying that games are real mathematical simulations with objects interacting with each other using physics and standard scientific reactions like gravity etc, and not just simple pictures like a comic. Had an artist once complain to the programmer that it was taking so long, but the artist is not responsible for object collisions, characters walking up stairs instead of through them, and sound etc. At most all an artist does is make an image library, which is important, but that's not a game.
A game idea can be shared across disciplines though and get the most feedback based on the requirements at each point. To honestly really move on it this year, you're going to need to hire a programmer, otherwise look at about 3 years of personal development with game coding, hosting, database, and many other items. Everything is a networking game now, so don't forget that either. Oh, and you want the game to autoupdate too. Also level editors, character editors, map editors etc and other internal programs to help you manage the whole thing. This isn't a board game right? If you're going it alone, or even with a little help, python would be a fine choice and save you time at about 1.5 years. You can use pygame development as your base. It's license is flexible enough to help you too. Check out their website for examples. Generally though most games are made in C++/Visual C++ so this is a different universe.
