I went over to the US for a couple of months (I'm from England) to hang out with some friends, had some transfer issues and decided to open a bank account. I'm pretty sure I was not allowed to do it but I just went into a bank and opened an account and got the cash card, checking card and cheques through about a week later.

I'm pretty sure (several years later) that the account is still active and my ten remaining dollars are earning interest

aww! I'm so happy for you!! yes that's right you can open a bank account in the us by going to the bank in the US , just you have to take with you to type of ID (eg.passport,driving licence...ect) and they will open a bank account for you!

You can open a brokerage acct from Etrade via Etrade financial
and you get the VISA debit card and paypal just like a checking acct, but you need minimum $1000.

or Alqeida forget openning an acct in the US.
