Paying Tax - Which government?
Scenario: I live and work in Ireland, I have a website hosted on American servers. Website visitors from around the world pay money to access subscribed content. My customers use PayPal to make their payments (American servers?).
Questions: -Do I pay tax on my subscriptions to the American or the Irish government? IF the tax rate depends on the location of the server, does anybody know of a country that has low/no tax rates for this type of transaction?

I don't see how the location of the servers is really an issue. Your business itself is in Ireland. The Americans you're paying for your servers are in turn paying the American government their share.
Unless I missed something ... ?

It appears that if I am supplying services to a private customer outside the EU then I don't have to pay VAT. Is there any other tax I have to pay?
Do I have to register myself as a business, it seems a bit ridiculous if I am only trying to cover hosting costs? Last edited by conoroleary : June 28th, 2006 at 05:36 PM. Reason: Update

Income tax; I'd presume you do have to declare yourself as a business, at the least, file the equivalent of a Fictitious Business Name.
I'm not a tax attorney nor familiar with Irish tax laws, however, so an Irish Tax Attorney would be a person to ask :-)
