PayPal/eBay
Hi, I'm new to PayPal and eBay and would like to ask a few questions about them. If anyone could give me some help it would be greatly appreciated.
I recently signed up for an eBay account to sell off some gaming stuff, and also got interested to buy. I also set up a PayPal account because I read up that PayPal is the most common and convenient transaction method. However, there are some things I am not too sure about. Firstly, if I bid an item on eBay and I win it, will a confirmation email be sent to me? Payment has to be made after that on PayPal, right? Does PayPal charge directly from my credit card? Do I need to transfer funds from my credit card to my PayPal account before I can pay, or is there a direct transaction from my credit card to the seller? When I clicked on 'Add Funds', Quote:
There is an option to 'Transfer Funds From a Bank Account in the United States', however I am not from the United States. I do not really understand that function. Also, if someone has won the item I sold, how will I know if he has paid me? Will it be on my next bank statement? Thanks |

Quote:
Yes, to the e-mail you signed up with (or whatever is your current ebay e-mail tied to your account). It will inform you that you have won the auction, state the final price, a link to the auction and payment options, and seller instructions (if any). You'll also probably get a confirmation from the seller, as well. Quote:
Not all sellers accept paypal. Before you bid, you should carefully read the auction details to find out what the seller will accept. Some accept only check or money order because paypal charges a fee. Others prefer to use their own collection methods, such as western union. Personally, I avoid these auctions if the seller insists on a payment method other than check/mo/paypal. If it is unclear, you should always ask the seller before bidding. By the ebay agreement you have three days to work out payment arrangements with the seller from the time the auction closes. If you don't, the seller can report you as a non-paying bidder (there are many steps to this, I had to do it once... ebay does try to discourage this by making you wait a few extra days and gently reminding the seller to continue to try to work it out with the bidder). Nothing is automatic, but usually if the seller accepts paypal you will have a link "Pay Now" in your MyEbay Auctions I Won area to pay. You have to enter a final total inclusive of tax, insurance and shipping the seller will generally calculate or will be a fixed rate. Quote:
Obviously, this option does not apply to you and you should ignore it. Quote:
PayPal will notify you. You can log into paypal and see your payments. Keep in mind that "pending" transactions haven't cleared yet. Once they clear, you can request a funds transfer TO your bank (I don't know about foreign banks here) but if you don't request a payout then the funds stay in your account (and you can use them to pay for auctions you win).

Another question here:
How do you transfer funds to your PayPal account? I see my balance is only around 6 USD, which is the amount I earned from selling stuff. If I want to buy something which is 7 USD, how do I go about transferring funds from my bank account/credit card to paypal? |

There's a site that has details on all this information you are asking about. It's ... um ... let me see .... oh, here it is: http://www.paypal.com AFIK you can use your current balance then have the remainder automatically debited from a bank account or paid via credit card. Read through all their information, and any lingering questions should be directed to paypal customer service.

If it's only giving you the option of adding funds from a US account, it would suggest that Singapore isn't one of the coutries you can add funds from. In that case, when you make a payment for more than the amount you have in your PayPal account, the balance will be taken from the credit/debit card you have registered. You don't have to (read: can't) add the funds from the card to the account because the charge is instant anyway.
