Project Management Software
Hi guys,
I'm currently reviewing project management software. I've gone through the majority of the open source/free ones available out there including phpcollab, dotproject, activecollab, promanager and others... Unfortunately none of these ones were suitable for the company that I'm working for. It is not a software company but an e-commerce store. The project management software doesn't need to monitor orders or sales or anything like that, but is used for others things i.e. group communication, projects/tasks, files etc. If anyone can recommend a commercial project management software that has a really user-friendly GUI and is simple to use. The faster the software can be used - the better. i.e. as simple as possible for users and not time-consuming to add a task etc. Many thanks for any recommendations. Nathan |

If it's something that basic then I suggest using a forum. I actually did this for a little bit to collaborate with a client, and it worked well!
Most forum scripts will also provide you with the ability to manage file uploads and such, on a per-user, per-role basis.

Interesting idea.....never thought of that.
I will look into that as I could see that working...particularly with some customization. Thanks for the idea! |

You might want to break down the situation further into user stories. Using forum software and a wiki could probably meet a lot of your needs in terms of communication and building corporate knowledge.
For project management, we use XPlanner, which works pretty well for software development. We then maintain documentation, files, etc. on our wiki. It a light-weight process and quite fast once everyone adopted XP approaches. |

If you want something simple to share and track basic tasks you should look into MS Sharepoint.

I'm looking into Sharepoint right now....
Have you had any experience with it? Anyone else? In comparing Sharepoint with Microsoft Project - it is not completely obvious which one would be better to go with. They seem so similar.....I'm leaning towards Microsoft Project right now. Cheers! |
