remove "developed by"?
I am a developer. If a client is selling his website (that I created for him), is it usual to remove the "developed by" line which links to me or keep it?

It's all in what's in your contract and how much you're still putting into it. Usually the site, it's content, data, and source belong to the person who paid for the site. If s/he wants to make changes that's within their rights unless otherwise stated in your contract. Which means if s/he wants to sell it and the buyer wants to remove it, that's their right too.
However, if you have an active maintenance contract and the purchaser takes that as well and uses you for site maintenance, then "maintain" your site and put it back
